ALEJANDRO ALDEA

Santiago, Chile (1984)

Alejandro Aldea

I'm a filmmaker, philosopher, and multidisciplinary artist from Santiago de Chile, currently based in Salzburg, Austria.

I work as a director and screenwriter. I also do research mainly in moral philosophy, the philosophy of economics, and aesthetics, although I'm equally interested in the philosophy of science, epistemology, political philosophy, and the philosophy of sport. In addition, I work as a contemporary artist across different media.

Before moving to Salzburg, I spent nearly a decade developing and participating in a self-managed, horizontal art and production cooperative called Guasasapo, and I taught for six years at the Film School of the Faculty of Image and Communication at the University of Chile. Since relocating, I have been professionally honing my skills as a welder and in other crafts, such as weaving, while also refining my work in Analytic Philosophy at the University of Salzburg and in Artistic Research at the Mozarteum University. At the same time, I continue to develop film and art projects and pursue philosophical research. Of course, everything sustained—when necessary to add up to make ends meet—by labour jobs, such as cooking and washing dishes here.

When I'm not making films, doing philosophy, or creating art, and when I am not working a labour job, I devote most of my time to watching football, jogging, cooking (vegan!), spending time with this person, and spending time with people from all walks of life. At this stage of my life, there isn't much backpacking around the world, but the call of adventure remains important to me.
